free 4-day meeting

What is the Data Research Camp?

It is a free 4-day meeting of the Department of Statistics, Computer Science, Applications of the University of Florence that is to be held in Florence, Italy, July 15-18, 2024.

It is designed for young scholars to explore statistics and data science for extracting new knowledge from data. Young scholar participants will work in team under the guide of senior researchers with a leading experience in different areas of Statistics. They will be asked to develop innovative methods and models to analyze a common dataset, with the goal of answering scientific questions arising from an applied problem.

In the current era of big data and data science, data proliferates at an extraordinary pace, providing an endless source of information, but also raising new scientific challenges. The new generations of researchers in Statistics will be faced with these challenges and their contribution to the modern Statistics and Data Science urge with the development of new tools and methods to harness the power of data.

Objective is to bring together researchers in statistics and data science in a stimulating setting to exchange ideas and to promote discussion, new scientific connections and interdisciplinary collaborations. The Data Research Camp is expected to have short and long-term impacts laying the groundwork for new interdisciplinary pathways that will lead to cutting-age con- trinbutions to the modern Statistics from both methodological and applied perspectives.

The Research Camp is supported by the excellence program “Rethinking Data Science (ReDS): advances in causal inference and statistical learning across domains” and it is endorsed by the PhD programs in Statistics of the University of Florence, Bocconi University, University of Bologna and University of Padova.

The Data Research Camp of the Department of Statistics, Computer Science, Applications of the University of Florence follows two successful editions organized by the Department of Statistical Sciences of the University of Padua (see the websites of the 2019 and 2022 editions)
